Empower, Educate, Assist - Hawaii SHIP is a federally funded, volunteer-based program administered by the Hawaii Department of Health, Executive Office on Aging.

Hawaii SHIP provides Services including:

  • Free, Local, One-on-One, Unbiased Medicare Counseling.
  • Free Presentations on Medicare-Related Topics.
  • Free Information on Medicare.

To Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, caregivers, and soon-to-be retirees.


Medicare Quick Bites – Making Medicare Digestible!

What is Medicare?

Health insurance for people:
  • Aged 65 and over.
  • Under 65, receiving SSDI for 2 years.
  • With ESRD or ALS.

What is Medicaid?

A Federal and State Program that provides health insurance for people with limited income and/or assets and who meet other criteria.

What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?

  • Resource for people who don't have health insurance or don't qualify for Medicare or Medicaid.
  • If you have Marketplace insurance when you turn 65, sign up for Medicare to avoid a coverage gap & late enrollment penalty.
  • If you're on Medicare, it's illegal for a broker to sell you a Marketplace plan.
